Trump Seen by 22 Medical Specialists in One Visit — and the White House Won't Say Why

President Donald Trump was assessed by 22 medical specialists during a single three-hour visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on May 27 — a number without precedent in the modern presidential record. The White House has declined to identify the specialists or explain why so many were involved.
A Number Without Precedent
The figure is nearly double Trump's own previous checkups. He was seen by 11 specialists in 2019 and 14 in 2025. For comparison, George H.W. Bush saw five specialists at his first presidential checkup in 1989; George W. Bush saw 12.
"It is an extraordinary number," Jonathan Reiner, the longtime cardiologist to former Vice President Dick Cheney, told The Washington Post.
The White House Response
Trump's physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, wrote after the exam that the 79-year-old president "remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and overall physical function."
Pressed on the discrepancy between that glowing assessment and the unprecedented roster of doctors, the White House said only that "the involvement of multiple specialists reflects a comprehensive, multidisciplinary evaluation consistent with best practices for executive-level medical care." It has not said which medical disciplines were represented.
Questions Mount
The opacity has fueled questions from both supporters and critics: if the president is in excellent health, why did his exam require a specialist team larger than any president before him?
